Steel Oats

This recipe for steel-cut oatmeal will be the morning treat you look forward to on the Dash Diet it is a healthy choice and will help you start you day with energy.     This recipe is for 3 servings at 150 calories per serving.

Add some of your favorite flavor to the basic Steel Oats recipe.

Coconut Lime, Pumpkin, Maple / Apple, Strawberry Chia,



  • 1 cup steel-cut oats
  • 3 cups 1% milk (or soy milk)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 pinches nutmeg


  1. Toast one cup steel-cut oats in a pot over medium heat, stirring, three to four minutes. Transfer to a plate and rinse pot.


  1. Bring milk (or soy milk) to a boil over medium heat in same pot. Stir in oats, cinnamon stick,  and nutmeg. Simmer on low, covered but stirring occasionally, until creamy, 25 minutes. Discard cinnamon.


  1. Transfer three 1/2-cup portions to containers and keep chilled. Serve, or freeze leftovers for a future week. Enjoy!
